The Bonk Compendium - Pithecanthropus Internetus

Welcome
Welcome to The Bonk Compendium! Just as Nintendo has Mario and Sega has Sonic, NEC and Hudson Soft once had Bonk (PC Genjin for those of you in Japan or B.C. Kid for those of you in PAL territories). Covering the hard-headed caveman's adventures across multiple platforms, The Bonk Compendium is a website dedicated to all things "Bonk," a character sorely lacking a presence on the Internet until now. If you've stumbled across this site and don't know who Bonk is, please check the series guide and F.A.Q. For the rest of you, I hope you will embark on a nostalgic perusal of this site, and hope you find the resources found here useful. You may begin by choosing a section on the menu panel, found to the left.

Dementia of Hudson Entertainment has posted a new thread where you can win one of the limited edition Honk if you Bonk T-shirts as well as a Hudson E3 stylus. Simply tell him why you deserve the prize and you could win! In addition, good designs impressed Hudson staff enough that posting good art in the previously mentioned concept art thread might result in a limited T-shirt run featuring your own design!

Bonk has joined the dark side. Hudson has unveiled MySpace pages for Bonk, Master Higgins, and Bomberman. Bonk's page appears to be designed in true MySpace form with nearly illegible text and lots of pics of women. It also includes some humorous back story to the upcoming Bonk's Return. Assuming you have a MySpace account, adding the Hudson characters to your friends list could net you prizes such as this limited edition Honk if you Bonk T-shirt! Also shown off was some new Bonk concept art. Much like the Bonk remake for GameCube/PS2, the art isn't that great, which has led several people to come up with their own designs in this thread. Also, if you'd like to let Hudson know that they should bring Bonk to the next gen consoles, be sure to vote in their poll!

Bonk made a surprise appearance in Nintendo's Wii booth as one of the 5 featured games for Virtual Console! Check out the photos! Today I met with Hudson to discuss their future plans. They are planning on re-releasing 100 TurboGrafx-16 titles on the Virtual Console, which should include the other Bonk games. I also had the chance to play Bonk's Return. The game plays pretty much like the Bonk we all know and love. However, the game is quite short-- one person apparently completed the game in 15 minutes. Bonk's future is pretty bright as Hudson is interested in bringing Bonk back as their mascot. How well that goes will be up to his acceptance in his upcoming games. One final thing, I managed to get a photo of a Zonk fan at E3.

Bonk's Return, a mobile phone "retelling" of the original Bonk's Adventure has been officially announced! Media for the game has been added, including screenshots and a promotional movie! The press release can be found here.
In addition, The Bonk Compendium is now officially endorsed by Hudson Entertainment. For the relaunch of Hudson Entertainment's website and the announcement of Bonk's Return, I wrote an article featured on their website entitled The Definitive Bonk. Also posted is Part 1 of an interesting interview with the President of Hudson Entertainment. Be sure to check those articles out, as well as the rest of their site!

Great news! I have word from Hudson that Bonk is coming soon to mobile phones! They are also interested in bringing Bonk to other platforms. Hudson is interested in working with fansites and would like to hear stories from fans regarding their old franchises. They are not sure which game they will bring to Nintendo's Virtual Console service, so why not drop them a line and tell them what you'd like to see? More information as it becomes available.
