So instead I wrote this Boss FAQ. In this document I will tell you how to beat each boss in this game. Basically the best strategies and moves to defeat each boss. Since this is a Boss FAQ, this document will not go into things like enemy list, item list, story etc. ======================================================================= |-II.------------------------ THE CONTROLS ---------------------------| ======================================================================= =-Start-= pauses the game, on the pause screen you can see the number of smiley faces you have collected, how many lives you have, and what stage you are on. -=Select-= has no use in the game. =-A-= when you are just standing on the ground it makes you jump, it thrusts you upward while in the water or while climbing. =-B-= when standing on the ground or while floating in water it performs a head-butt, if you press it in the middle of a jump you will do somersaults. Flipping over once points your head toward the ground, flipping over again puts you upright again. To use this somersault as an attack, you have to point your head toward the enemy. =-Up-= moves you down when you are climbing on a wall or tree, also it's how you climb into the skull elevator at the end of each stage. =-Down-= moves you down while climbing on a wall or tree =-Left-= moves Bonk left =-Right-= moves Bonk right The most useful thing about the somersault is the ability to use it as an attack. If you are facing head down, you will deal a powerful blow to whatever is under you. This attack is what I call a "upside-down pound". Remember that, because you'll hear it a lot in the rest of this guide. ======================================================================= |-III.---------------------- THE BOSS GUIDE --------------------------| ======================================================================= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-The 1st Mini-Boss-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Just so we don't start out in a state of confusion, this is the boss that looks like a big dinosaur with a goofy look on his face. Anyway, his weak point is the white cap on the top of his head. His main attack is releasing bubbles from his nose. The best strategy here is to first jump up on his arm, then jump straight up again so you are right over his head. Now, do as many "upside-down pounds" as possible. Each time you hit his head, it should shoot you back up, making it easy to score hit after hit in a row. With a little practice, you should be hitting him about 5 times consecutively before he knocks you down. When you fall, just jump right back up there and start the cycle again. The bubbles he shoots can be broken with a head-butt, but it is just as easy to avoid them. Should they hit you, they won't hurt you much anyway. This guy should be done after about 8 "upside-down pounds". =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-The 2nd Mini-Boss-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This guy's (or girl's) weak point is that gray cap on top of his head. In this battle, you will have to make use of the platform they have so conveniently provided for you. In the first half of the fight, this mini-boss will drop down from above, shoot a star out of his hand, and then disappear into a puff of smoke. So for now you should wait for him on that platform and do an "upside-down pound" as soon as he appears. Try to hit him before he throws his star. This will work for the first 5 hits. After that, he will stop disappearing. Instead, he will just jump around on the screen firing off stars. Also, he will spend much less time on the ground. This means you have to be a lot more aggressive in your attacks. Try to stay airborne as long as possible, keeping your hits as close together as possible. Give this guy about 11 "upside-down pounds", and you're ready to move on. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-The 3rd Mini-Boss-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Like almost all of the mini-bosses in this game, this things weak point is on his head. Actually, it is the yellow helmet that sits on his head that you should be focusing on. This guy has two ways to hurt you, he can throw rocks at you, or you can accidentally touch his spiked arms. With most mini-bosses in this game, you want to stay airborne as long as possible, but that is not the case with this guy. With this guy, you want to put time between you attacks. The best strategy is to jump at him, "upside-down pound" him and then let yourself land on the other side. If you try multiple hits in a row, he will knock you out of the sky easily with a couple of rocks. Here, you need to be patient and time your attacks in tune with his rhythm. Like in all NES games, each enemy has a rhythm. If you learn that rhythm, you will find the easiest way to defeat him. This boss goes down in about 12 hits. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-The 4th Mini-Boss-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Here, before you, is the boxing duck. Guess where this duck's weak point is... that's right, the white cap on top of his head. Just like with the 2nd mini-boss fight, you will make use of a platform. When you first fight him he may seem really difficult, but he actually is the easiest guy in the game to beat. He has two attacks, a flying boxing glove and a charge. So just wait for one of his flying gloves to be in between you (who should be waiting on the platform) and him. Now, do an "upside-down pound" on the glove to knock it away, and use the reflex from that pound to carry you over the duck's head. Just keep pounding and pounding on his head, keeping in mind that every now and then he will slide across the screen. With practice you should be able to defeat this guy without ever getting knocked to the ground. This mini- boss shouldn't take more than 8 "upside-down pounds" to finish off. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-The 5th Mini-Boss-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Now you get to fight a big van, that's right, the only thing standing between you and the final boss is a van called "T3". Anyway, the weak point on "T3" here is the little lever that sits just above his eyebrow. As usual, you should attack him with "upside-down pounds". Besides trying to run you over or stomp you into the ground, this van can use attacks borrowed from the four previous mini-bosses. That sounds bad, but he is actually pretty harmless. It shouldn't take more than 12 "upside-down pounds" to end this battle. When you finish him off, he'll start to flash, and then he'll float straight up. Now you get to read a nice little message from something called "Princess Za" before you blast off to the final boss. ======================================================================= |-IV.---------------III---- THE FINAL FIGHT --------------------------| ======================================================================= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-The Final Boss-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-= After you finish watching one of the worst cut-scenes ever made, and you've sat through the seizure inducing 10-second screen flash, you will find yourself face-to-face with King Drool. This guy's weak point is his eye, although any hits in that general area of his face will hurt him. For the last guy, the fight with him is actually pretty simple. Anything he may shoot at you is slow, and easy to avoid or head-butt. He himself moves pretty slowly, so attacking him proves pretty easy. Watch out for him to vanish, then reappear to try and throw you off. When his life is half gone, he'll turn a bright green. Now, he'll throw pitchforks at you instead of those flashing orbs he was trying earlier. Also, he will almost never leave the air so he will become slightly more difficult to defeat, but it's nothing you can't handle. In about 12 hits or so, this guy is done, and you are treated to another horrible cut-scene. Congratulations... ======================================================================= |-V.------------------------ SPECIAL THANKS --------------------------| ======================================================================= Thank you CjayC for hosting this, and all my other FAQs, guides, and codes on your site www.GameFAQs.com Thank you IGN for posting this on your site www.IGN.com Thank YOU for reading this boss guide, I hoped it helped you out. ======================================================================= |-VI.------------------------- IN CLOSING ----------------------------| ======================================================================= If you see any mistakes in this guide or if you have anything to add to it, then please e-mail me at the address at the top of the document. I hope even more that it helps somebody out. I'm calling this version 1.0 12/6/02: Made a few quick changes, this is version 1.1 12/17/02: I made a few small format changes. I call this FAQ version 1.2 12/20/02: Just another small format change. I call this FAQ version 1.3 12/21/02: What can I say, I'm a perfectionist. I just can't leave the format alone. I call this FAQ version 1.31 12/30/02: Sorry, I just couldn't help it. I changed the format, yet again. Since I've been making a lot of these changes, so I'm not even going to bother with changing the FAQ version. This is still FAQ version 1.31 1/20/03: With advice from "phoenix 1911", I changed the format again. This is still FAQ version 1.31 5/6/2003: I cleaned this guide up a little, as well as adding my writing signature to the bottom. I'm still gonna call this one FAQ version 1.31 6/12/2003: IGN may now post this guide on their site. ======================================================================= |-VIII.----------------- COPYRIGHT INFORMATION -----------------------| ======================================================================= Since I, Michael Tyler (Reptile) wrote this document, it is protected by copyright law.
